IRA Newsletter Project #5 - Storynory

Storynory (https://storynory.com) is a podcast and website that has been providing free audio stories to the public since November 2005. The content is free and aims to showcase imagination, good writing, and great narrations in all its audio stories. Storynory produces factual content, including history and interviews, with the goal of stimulating curiosity and critical thinking skills in its listeners. The original stories are written in-house, mainly by Bertie (Hugh Fraser) and read by professional actors, who have a masters in Classical acting from London's prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama.

Bertie, the founder of Storynory, has a background in classics, having studied Ancient Greek and Roman History, Philosophy, and Literature at Oxford University. He also lived in Russia and worked for 12 years as a producer on BBC Radio. This wealth of knowledge and experience helps in creating stories that are both educational and entertaining.

Storynory is an effective resource for improving literacy skills because the stories it provides are designed to showcase imagination, good writing, and great narrations. The quality of the stories, writing and narration are important in keeping the listener's attention and interest, which is crucial for the development of literacy skills. Listening to high-quality stories can help improve comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. The inclusion of factual content such as history and interviews is an effective way to stimulate curiosity and critical thinking. By exposing listeners to a variety of content, Storynory provides an opportunity for them to learn new information and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. All these factors combined makes Storynory an effective resource to improve literacy skills, providing a valuable resource for children, educators and parents to foster a love of reading and critical thinking.
