Effective Literacy Website #1 EQ

Tech Crazy Teacher (tech crazy teacher.com) is a website that links teachers to apps they can use in their classrooms. It emphasizes on don’t just teach them, empower them. The site briefly describes 16 reading websites to integrate both reading and technology.

I chose this website because it covers some websites that my colleagues use with their students. Such as Epic and Starfall. Epic (getepic.com) is a digital library for students in K-5. As students read it finds books that are of interest to the student. Then there’s Starfall (Starfall.com) It's focus is on beginning readers. It teaches both beginning reading and writing skills for students.

The site I am most interested in is Read Write Think and Into the Book. Read Write Think (read write think.org) has lesson plans and activities for teachers to access and use. The site also focuses on CCSS. The site has lessons published by ILA. This site has lessons for K-12. It holds an abundance of information and resources to access.

Into the Book (reading eco.org) This is a comprehension resource made for elementary students and teachers. The program focuses on the eight research based strategies. Using prior knowledge, making connections, questioning, visualizing, inferencing, summarizing, evaluating and synthesizing. These are important for students to improve their reading.

Currently at the school I work at the emphasis is on reading. We are monitoring Oral Reading fluency. The gap continues to grow if we do not address comprehension. This website provides us with the link to tools we can access. Although there is a need for fluency at the same time we can address comprehension. Reading is two fold. Decoding and comprehension. Both are needed to lay the foundation for students to become better readers.
