Teach Your Monster to Read makes reading instruction enjoyable. Teach Your Monster to Read (https://www.teachyourmonster.org/) promotes early literacy and is accessible online and as an app. It was created and published by The Usborne Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Peter Usborne and his children, Nicola and Martin Usborne, to fund programs that promote early literacy. Their belief in creating this website is that every child should have the opportunity and accessibility to learn and develop reading skills in their early years and beyond.

In the game, Teach Your Monster to Read, children take on the role of an alien monster whose spacecraft crashes on a remote island. The mission emphasizes learning letter and vowel sounds, blends, segments, phonemes, graphemes, and, eventually, sentences. The game also includes several small games dispersed throughout several islands displayed on an animated map to show the child's progress. If a child is having trouble with a specific set of sounds, the sounds will appear more often, so that child gets more opportunities to practice. Children can also earn many rewards for mastering sounds, such as designing a monster's appearance.
Overall, this website is an effective literacy website for children still learning sounds and blends. The game design for teaching phonics instruction is systematic, sequential, and explicit. Children have many opportunities for their monsters to master sounds before going on to the next set. Students can gain more practice by having flashcards of the sounds they need more work on. Overall, the website offers many opportunities for children to learn their letter sounds and blends in a fun, engaging way.
