IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #2 Tumblebooks

The second literacy website is a website called Tumblebooks https://www.tumblebooks.com/ and it is a website that has a plethora of children’s books that range from Kindergarten and all the way to 6th grade. Many of these books include animated books as well as books that students can read along to. What is great about this literacy website is although it is based on a paid subscription, the amount of valuable resources that they offer is worth the amount that their subscription is. They have over 1,100 titles of books that can range from non-fiction to fiction and could even be given in different languages such as Spanish and French!

Most other websites primarily focus on students in the elementary grade level, but Tumblebooks also offers a link called TennBookCloud middle and high school students can utilize for their literacy skills. This part of the website allows older students to access e-books as well such as graphic novels, audio narrations and classic literature with videos as well. This area also offers an AP English section for their books and other curriculum books.

The website also includes a math link called Tumble Math for students and educators to utilize.
Although it is not necessarily
related to literacy, it can be used to
offer ways to teach mathematical equations and concepts, while using stories and other forms of literature. By adding stories that are relevant to math, students will be able to still practice their literacy skills with the use of Tumble Math.

Last, but not least, Tumblebooks offer a way for students to listen to the stories that they are accessing. By clicking the AudioBookClub link in the site, it will take you to their database of audiobooks that you can stream. They are always available and have over 1,200 titles with varying genres and levels. This site also has a free mobile app that you can download.

Overall, this website has a vast amount of resources that will
be beneficial to all learners, regardless of their reading level. Although it is not free, the subscriptions are affordable and the pursuit of wanting the best resources for our students is ultimately the goal in mind.
