IRA Effective Literacy Review #4

Literacy Review on Wonderopolis Website

What is interesting about the Wonderpolis site?

Wonderopolis ( https://wonderopolis.org/) is a website that addresses a new question every day to engage kids' curiosity in a wide range of topics. It is an informational site that helps kids ask and answer interesting questions about the world.  Wonderopolis is free for all parents, teachers, and students.  Every day, a new "Wonder of the Day" question is posted -- each designed to get kids to think, talk, and find learning moments together in everyday life. Teachers and educators can check this website for interesting learning resources.

Teachers can use this website in the classroom for reading purposes and different strategies too. For reading class, a teacher can integrate a Daily 5 Framework and use ideas from this website.  For example, the teacher can present a topic and then use questions from the wonder web as a journal prompt before reading the answers. Go on and have students starts to write in their journal what they learn about the topic.  They can also use this web to have students explore nonfiction writing traits, and styles by analyzing the author’s writing.  Despite the limitations in supporting struggling readers, this website offers great benefits in open-mindedness activity. Both educators and teachers can implement programs from Wonder and use them for whatever works best for their students.  On a daily basis, the teacher can project the videos and use the audio recording when giving daily questions.  Students would love digital lessons and stay engaged too.  Teachers from elementary schools can adapt these lessons to their perfect usage in the classroom. They can paraphrase the article responses, or use any of the suggested activities to motivate students’ participation and encourage them to explore more these lessons.

This website also provides science and social study lessons. Teachers of upper grades like 4th and above can also use these activities.  These activities can help them well with class management during group work. Most in-depth, the site's inquiry-based focus is perfect for enrichment assignments for any student in search of more independent learning. At the bottom line, for a place to find inspiration and quench curiosity, the site may work best for that enrichment.  It is also a good introduction to a curricular unit. Teachers of more proficient readers likely fourth grade and above may want to connect the archive of questions to science and social studies units., it's perfect for enrichment assignments for any student in search of more independent learning.

As a curious person, I personally like this site for its daily updates to questions and answers.  It provides fun activities that would keep students informed of stories about the world. I especially like the fact that it makes it easy for kids to uncover new and interesting information about their world.  My daughter would definitely love this website very much. She likes to play riddles every day and I am sure this page is just the right page for her
